Omega specifies a 20 mm lug width for this 42 mm Moonwatch. The case diameter and strap width are different measurements. Measure the gap where the strap attaches, not the outside of the case.

Look at the amount of padding near the lugs as well as the colour. A thick strap can make the junction with the case look fuller; a flatter one leaves more of the case outline visible. Nylon for a more casual outline

A single-pass strap runs beneath the watch. That creates a different silhouette from two separate strap halves, particularly when seen from the side. Think about where the buckle and keepers will sit, and how you will secure any remaining length.

Do not choose it solely because it is the right width. The fabric also needs clearance between the spring bars and the case. A textured black rubber strap keeps the palette close to the dial. The surface pattern creates interest without introducing a strong colour contrast. Check the underside, fastening and dimensions as carefully as the pattern on top.

Check the junction with the watch

Before settling on a look, compare four practical details. They affect how the strap sits even when the stated width is correct.

• Attachment: check the end shape, spring-bar dimensions and clearance against the case.
• Thickness: inspect the material near the lugs and, for a pass-through strap, beneath the watch.
• Length: compare the stated dimensions with a strap that sits comfortably on your wrist, allowing for a different buckle position.
• Fastening: do not assume an existing Omega clasp transfers to an aftermarket strap. Check the buckle-end width and fastening system separately.
